A PMG India Initiative To Transform ‘Event Waste’
Into Desks And Seats For Underserved Schools.
Today, the corporate event industry in India, valued at ₹92,000 crore and growing at 19% annually, generates a significant amount of scrap. Temporary setups like wooden stages and booths discarded after single-use, must be managed effectively. Meanwhile, according to the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) for 2019-20 in the NITI Aayog report, about 42% of schools in India lack furniture. States like Punjab alone report over 496,000 students attending schools without furniture.
Recognizing this disconnect, PMG India launched this initiative to pilot ‘Scrap To School’, which upcycles event scrap into durable desks and chairs for underserved schools.
The initiative, aligned with PMG Asia's global sustainability charter, has already upcycled material waste generated from corporate events and transformed it into 60 seats and 30 desks, distributed in association with Sudha Society and Janm Foundation.

"We believe children without desks in a classroom is a design flaw; therefore, we approached each desk with the fundamentals of design thinking—ergonomic, durable, beautiful. Because these students deserve more than hand-me-downs; they deserve dignity in design."
